How to download your FBI results?

How to receive your FBI criminal background check results

If you have applied for an FBI criminal background check, you may be wondering how to receive your results. This guide will walk you through the process step by step, ensuring that you can access your FBI report without any issues.

Download your FBI report

Once your background check is complete, you will receive two notifications via email from the Criminal Justice Information Services. Follow these steps to download your results:

  • The first email is a notification confirming that they have received your fingerprinting documents.

  • The second email notifies you that your results are available for review.

What to do next?
Find the email with the link and pin code

When you first applied for your FBI background check, you should have received an email containing a unique link and pin code. This email is crucial, as it is the only way to start your FBI application and access your results. If you cannot find this email, check your spam, junk, or trash folder to ensure it has not been accidentally deleted.

Log in to the FBI’s official portal

  1. Open the email with the link and pin code.

  2. Click the link provided in the email.

  3. Enter your pin code to verify your identity.

  4. Access and download your official FBI background check report.

Track your application status

Before your results are available, you can use the portal to check the status of your request. If your background check is still in progress, you may need to wait a few more business days before your report is ready.

Important to know: Until your results are available, the portal will display the status “missing fingerprint cards.” This is normal; the status will be updated once your results are ready, and you receive the confirmation email.

Print or save your results

After downloading your results, ensure that you save a copy to your computer or cloud storage for future reference. If needed, print a hard copy for submission to the requesting agency or employer.

Once your statement is available on the FBI’s platform, you will have 24 hours to download it after opening the document for the first time. After that, your account will be locked, and you will no longer be able to log in. Please make sure to save the document securely after downloading it.

What if you lost your email with the link and pin code?

If you no longer have access to the original email containing your link and pin code, recovering your results can be challenging. Since the FBI does not resend the original link and pin, check all your email folders carefully.

Avoid applying again for the same request

If you have already submitted your details and received confirmation, do not submit a new application. The original link and pin are tied to your initial request. Submitting a new request means starting the process over, including taking new fingerprints and resubmitting them to the FBI.

Receiving your FBI criminal background check results is a straightforward process, provided you keep track of your confirmation email with the link and pin code. By following these steps, you can easily access your background check report when needed. If you run into any issues, be sure to check your email folders.
